A Visit to Giant Springs State Park in Montana

Over the weekend we decided to get away for the day and drove up to Giant Springs State Park.  This is a little park that was preserved because of the springs and Roe river that they produce.  The Roe river is the shortest river in the world at about 200 feet long and it is the cleanest water I’ve ever seen in my life.  The springs also create a short, but fairly wide waterfall the leads in two directions.  One to the Roe river and the other to the Missouri river.  While there, you can go walking for miles, back into Great Falls or you can take one of the trails and walk along the Lewis and Clark trail where the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center has set up numerous stations that guide you through the trail.

We went with my mother-in-law, Barb, and the boys had a blast.  They got to climb in some Willow trees and Riley climbed up a 20 foot rock formation (which is what led us to the Lewis and Clark trail) and we hiked a little bit and then when back to the pinicing area and had some lunch and ran up and down the hills.  We also fed some fish at the fish hatchery and even went down a couple of slides at the park.

There is no entrance fee and it is a great way to spend the afternoon if you happen to be in Great Falls, Montana for the day.
